Answers to Some Frequently Asked Question About Therapy Services

Will my health insurance cover therapy services?

Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy  are usually included under  medical plans. You should check with your insurance company or ask for assistance to identify what your insurance coverage is and whether or not the insurance company requires a physician’s referral. CMH (Central Maine Healthcare) and Rumford Hospital accept most major insurances. Call 1-888-869-3101for assistance in determining if Rumford Hospital accepts your insurance plan.

I don’t have health insurance. Can I still be seen?

Rumford Hospital always welcomes patients who would like to take charge of their own care. For patients paying directly for services at the time of their visit, a same- day flat rate discount is offered.  As with every patient, we focus on providing you with an economical treatment plan to keep your costs down, while obtaining maximal results. Special programs are available for people who are unable to pay for their medical services, through CMH. Please call 1-888-869-3101 for information about qualifying for these programs or for price quotes.

I received a bill for my portion of the charges, but I won’t be able to make the payment by the end of the month. What should I do?

Please call Patient Financial Services at 1-888-869-3101 and ask for information about short and long-term payment plans or other assistance with your bill.

What makes Rumford Hospital Therapy Services so distinctive?

Rumford Hospital provides therapy services that are personalized and focused on obtaining results in an economical and efficient manner. Patients have a one-on one visit with an experienced therapist. Our goal is to ensure that you are able to achieve your goals, big or small. We want you to be able to return to your life activities as soon as you are able.

Rumford Hospital offers physical, occupational and speech therapy services in one location.  You will work with the same therapist each visit. If the therapist will be absent, you have the option of visiting a different therapist or waiting until your therapist returns.

Your home exercise program is an important part of your recovery. You will receive a hand-out of your exercises, along with notes written by your therapist.

Research confirms that patients who take charge of their own care achieve the best results and have fewer visits, resulting in reduced care costs.  For example, immediately after surgery you may come into the clinic for several visits a week. If you progress on schedule and are having success with your home program, we may be able to reduce your frequency of visits. We are available by phone and/or e-mail and will respond quickly to any questions you may have during the week. If something has changed and you feel you need to be seen sooner, please call or e-mail us.
Rumford Therapy Services values your time. A visit average 45 minutes.  We strive to keep appointments on schedule and request that you arrive for your appointments in a timely manner.

What happens on the first visit?

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first visit.  Before your first visit, your scheduling and patient intake will take place by phone. At your first visit, you will need to register and complete any additional paperwork. Our friendly and well-trained front desk staff will always be happy to help you.

What forms will I need to fill out?

We request that you fill out a medical history form before seeing a therapist, to insure that you receive the appropriate care. The forms are on the Web site and can be downloaded. You can fill them out at home and bring them in at the first visit. Otherwise, the front office staff can help you with completing the forms and will be glad to answer any questions you may have. If you have a prescription for therapy, please make sure you bring this in on the first visit.

What should I wear?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is not restrictive. Wear shoes that you will be able to exercise in. Women with an arm or upper back problem may want to consider wearing a tank top or sports bra.  If you have a knee or ankle problem, consider wearing shorts.
